Summary/Abstract: The archive, together with the Library of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Buda, represents one of the most important Serbian cultural institutions outside the borders of Serbia. The preserved materials provide a large amount of data on the life and work of Serbs in the areas of Hungary, or the former Hungary, which have not been used in ethnological research to date. Data on the area where Serbian life lived or still lives, the number of inhabitants, personal property, property of churches and schools, data on cemeteries, monasteries, endowments, contributions and contributors, customs, religiosity, family relationships, personal and collective destinies, everyday life and attitude towards identity, are only part of the sources that the archive materials provide, opening up a range of possibilities for research in various fields of social sciences. By researching the funds of the Eparchy of Buda, one can obtain a wide variety of data significant for ethnological research. Using the examples of several ethnological authors who have used archival sources in their work, we learn about the dimension and role of these sources for ethnology/anthropology today.
