Summary/Abstract: In the late 1960s and early 1970s, an initiative was launched by Hungarian ethnographers, academics Gyula Ortutai and Ivan Balaša, to undertake ethnographic research among the then recognized national minorities in Hungary – Germans, Romanians, Slovaks and South Slavs (Slovenes, Serbs and Croats). This initiative met with similar efforts among the members of the minorities themselves. The systematic collection of national treasures began in 1971, and in 1974–1975, the Doroća Kanizhai Museum in Mohács became the so-called basic museum for South Slavic minorities, collecting its material not only in the Baranja region, but also in the entire country. The first permanent museum exhibition from this area was opened in 1976 under the name "Baranja Croatian and Serbian Groups". The paper will specifically discuss the collection of ethnographic material among Serbs in Hungary.
