Summary/Abstract: Despite a 500-year history, including periods of conflict as well as cooperation, the present relationship between Russia and Türkiye cannot be understood independently of recent global developments. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine marks a significant turning point in global politics, with major repercussions for the international system. By violating the territorial integrity of a sovereign state, Russia has weakened one of the fundamental principles of the liberal international order established after the Cold War and deepened the geopolitical divide between the West and the non-Western world.
