Summary/Abstract: The disintegration of the world’s market and the outbreak o f the global crisis show that something is wrong with the process of globalization, which dominated in the previous period. Globalization is the process of integration of the world economy. It is currently moving from liberal to strategic competition between the leading economies in the world. The main question is how to protect small open economies from the negative consequences that this change causes. An additional problem for Serbia is that it is in the process of joining the European Union. Due to the war in Ukraine, the EU decided in 2023 to accelerate the harmonization of the market of the Western Balkans with its internal market, including the market of Serbia, without granting formal EU membership to the states. However, existing changes within globalization threaten to end this initiative. That is why this text deals with globalization relations in today's world and how these processes affect the position of Serbia.
