Summary/Abstract: The analysis focuses on the contemporary challenges facing quality journalism. It traces the influence of political, economic, technological, and social factors on media practices in European Union member states. The research aims to determine whether modern threats to professional journalism—such as the rise of so-called “citizen journalism,” economic crises, and global disinformation—necessitate the adoption of new standards or the adaptation of existing ones. The evolving nature of journalistic standards is discussed in the context of the EU member states’ obligation to create a favorable environment for journalists’ work and safety, as well as to promote media pluralism and freedom of expression. The analysis finds that new conditions and risks impose additional requirements for achieving journalistic quality. It is intended to support the development of a current model for high-quality journalism.
