Summary/Abstract: The report aims to examine in detail the differential features between social, sociolinguistic, and sociocultural competence as components of communicative competence and to determine the place of cultural competence among them. Clarification of these correlates is necessary because of the variety of scientific statements that define them and create confusion about their semantics and the hierarchy between them. Communicative competence is the main goal of modern Bulgarian language education, and its practical implementation in the communicative act requires knowledge of the cultural specifics reflected in the language at different levels. This determines the place of cultural competence as its significant construct, which is in direct relation with its other components. Its identification as a meta-competency, as well as its purposeful formation and development, will lead to the desired result of the exit from the system - individuals possessing a rich value system and a high culture, who will be full-fledged citizens of modern society.
