Summary/Abstract: According to the French researcher Antoine Compagnon, we are witnessing an increasingly tangible indifference to literature and a deepening crisis of literary education. And while the decline of literature has been repeatedly proclaimed in the modern era, today there is in fact a serious decline in young people's reading and interest in literature. The paper focuses on some of the possible causes of this crisis - the economization of education, accusations of being uncompetitive with literature education, the impact of digital technology and new media.
