Summary/Abstract: The article presents corpus of textbooks and teaching materials for learning Bulgarian language in USA Defense Language Institute in the period between 1960 and 1980. This is one of the rare examples of audiolingual course for teaching Bulgarian as a foreign language. The article analyzes particularities of the audiolingual approach of teaching and describes methods of classwork. The course is compared with the textbooks published in Bulgaria in the same period.
