Summary/Abstract: The theatrical and film adaptations of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s works in Bulgaria are not that many. In the period 1989 – 2010, there are six of them, four among which are stage plays which are basically different versions of the same play, a puppet theatre play which states “based on Hoffmann,” and a single film. That which combines them, and which is very curious to academics, is that all six of them use the plot of Hoffmann’s Little Zaches Called Cinnabar as a basis. But why Zaches? This article seeks to offer possible answers to this very question.
