Summary/Abstract: This essay focuses on one of the adaptations of Hoffmann’s novella Little Zaches Called Cinnabar – an adaptation that has eluded the attention of readers as well as critics: the magic play for children Little Zaches by K. Talburg (1868). The article compares and contrasts the original and the later adaptation, and examines the reasons behind the differences. It offers a comprehensive analysis of the literary merit of Talburg’s play as compared to Hoffmann’s original text.
