Summary/Abstract: The empirical study aims to test for the presence of mutual determinacy between the dynamics of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Bulgaria for the period 2000 – 2023 and a set of five indices, calculated annually according to the World Bank methodology, which reflect relevant indicators of the state governance relevant to both the corruption climate and reflecting the efforts at the state level to combat corruption. The results of the study indicate the presence of structural and temporal differences in the set of corruption indices affecting inward and outward FDI. The dynamics of outward FDI are more influenced and more complexly affected by the studied corruption indexes (factors) compared to inward FDI. Taking into account the impact and its time persistence, we could point to the leading impact for FDI of the Corruption Index of Government Effectiveness, and provoking a positive change in its dynamics could cause an immediate and positive change in the final assessment of the effectiveness of anti-corruption actions in the country.
