Summary/Abstract: The 1982 Falklands War (guerra de Malvinas), also known as the South Atlantic war, marked a keymoment in the Argentine-British dispute over the sovereignty of the Falklands/Malvinas. Despite the40 years that have passed since the war, the painful experience of the conflict and the lingering senseof injustice derived from the British presence in the islands has persisted in Argentinian society to thisday. The aim of this article is to examine the measures adopted by the Argentine authorities to commemoratethe 40th anniversary of the South Atlantic war. The activities organized in the framework of theAgenda Malvinas 40 will be treated in this text as an expression of the state’s policy of memory aboutthe Malvinas, based on the belief that the islands were usurped by the United Kingdom and orientedto the domestic objective of strengthening national unity.
