Summary/Abstract: The aim of this chapter is to account for the relationship between the policies implemented by President López Obrador’s and the context in which multiple human rights violations occur in Mexico. Inthe first section, we analyse the main characteristics of his administration that can be characterized byincreasingly blurred boundaries of executive power, limited opportunities for contestation, and a lack ofpriority given to the guarantee of human rights. By doing this, we identify an ongoing process of autocratisation. In the second part, we account for the negative impact of this process on the work of civilsociety organisations and independent journalists, relevant actors in a democratic regime.
