Summary/Abstract: The current distress in Latin America, especially the poor economic indicators, is the result of the crisisof the neoliberal model that began in 2008 rather than of the ravages of COVID-19. The pandemicbenefited neoliberalism, since it obscured the reality and, as a result, governments formulated severeeconomic adjustment programs or fiscal reforms to protect the victims of the pandemic. However, suchmeasures generated an unprecedented social outburst that has stimulated a cycle of progressive governmentsand especially new possibilities for the popular and social movement.
