Summary/Abstract: Looking at the geopolitical position of Latin America in the twenty-first century, diverse internal andexternal variables that influenced the development and affected in different ways the geoeconomicchanges and international positioning of the region become evident. The most important internal variable is the cyclicality in the regional ideological-political history, which impacted economic, political, and integrative development. Further, the additional consequencesof the rivalry between conservative and progressive governments caused by the pandemic will beconsidered. They exposed many weaknesses in Latin American governance, especially in health andsocial policies. However, the pandemic is only one of the causes leading to a crisis of the neoliberaldevelopment model that caused the dismantling of several State jurisdictions and instruments. The analysis of external variables will show that Latin American geopolitics changed significantlyover the first 15 years of the twenty-first century. Progressive, leftist, or revolutionary governments, bystrengthening Latin American integrationist regionalism, opened space for the region’s new multipolarprojection. There is no doubt that, within these frameworks, the challenges of the pandemic causednumerous problems that are not limited to a sanitary and preventive character. This chapter will focuson the analysis of the changes that have taken place in the field of Latin American geopolitics andgeoeconomics: the international position of the region and the presence and influence of external actors. In short, it will seek to answer the following question: can some new geopolitical and geoeconomicdrivers be identified in Latin American foreign policy strategies despite the existing political and ideologicaldivergences?
