Summary/Abstract: Rural space, agriculture and the situation of peasants are major issues of modern and contemporary Romania. Having undergone several reforms under different political regimes, rural Romania is facing a final test that should transform poverty and subsistence into profit and competitiveness. Thus, at the beginning of the 21st century, in the context of European integration and the application of a new policy, this time the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), rural Romania is back at the center of political and economic debates. It is known that Romania has an underdeveloped economy, characterized by low productivity of agricultural exploitation, resulting from a low degree of technical endowment of labor in all sectors, and from inadequate efficiency in the use of production factors within international economic relations. Romania's association with the European Union would mean, economically, the creation of a free trade area and economic and financial cooperation, in support of the restructuring of the Romanian economy.
