Summary/Abstract: The European Economic and Social Cohesion Policy or Regional Policy has grown in importance since the creation of the European Regional Development Fund, ERDF, in 1975. It has become the second European policy after the CAP in terms of budgetary importance. The enlargement of the EU has strengthened its role, becoming an indispensable element of the territorial solidarity of the EU with 27 Member States. Regional Policy represents the future of European construction and its strengthening is necessary.
