Summary/Abstract: High-Altitude Platforms (HAPS) represent a transformative innovation in military and civilian technology, proving capabilities at the intersection of (pseudo) satellite functionality and airborne systems. Operating in the stratosphere to provide critical capabilities in surveillance, communication, and operational flexibility, HAPS prove their dual-use nature, serving both civilian applications, such as environmental monitoring and disaster response, and military applications, including intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and secure communications, placing them as strategic assets. Considered as the most viable method of telecommunications, HAPS has also importance in enhancing military operations due to real-time information, that is why, this paper explores the technical foundations, operational benefits, and strategic implications of HAPS for military applications while addressing their dual-use classification, and potential vulnerabilities. Through analysis of recent advancements and case studies, this research underscores the importance of HAPS in redefining battlefield dynamics and securing strategic advantages while also highlighting the need for responsible development and deployment of this emerging technology.
