Summary/Abstract: The transition from joint operations to multi-domain operations (MDO) represents a significant evolution in military strategy and operational concepts. Whereas joint operations primarily emphasize inter-service collaboration, MDO extends this conceptual model to encompass a more comprehensive approach to warfare. By enhancing situational awareness, leveraging advanced technologies, and focusing on rapid decision-making, armed forces aim to operate effectively across all domains, maintaining a decisive advantage over potential adversaries. The key to success in this new operational environment lies in the ability to process and act upon information at the speed of relevance, staying ahead of the opponent’s decision-making cycle. This article examines the transition to MDO, highlighting the fundamental differences from joint operations. The paper focuses on the evolving principles, the imperative of digital transformation, the role of adaptive leadership, and the shift from traditional hierarchical command and control structures to more distributed models in the MDO context.
