Summary/Abstract: Over the past five years (2020 – 2023), the wave of coups in African countries has called into question the EU’s ability to combine its role as an economic and political power with that of a security guarantor in the midst of competition for geopolitical influence between the major centers of power. Although there is a real need to restart EU – Africa relations in the field of intelligence and security, there is still no clearly defined framework for how the Union could implement such an initiative most efficiently. First, priority should be given to intelligence exchange between Member States within the EU itself, followed by achieving more operational level of cooperation with the intelligence services of partner countries in Africa. Next, in order to address the security challenges in Africa we need a thorough review of the CSDP policy regarding cooperation with the African countries.
