Summary/Abstract: Cyberbullying has new characteristics compared to traditional harassment, which can contribute to an increased risk of secondary harm for those involved. Being a cyberbystander can be considered a form of toxic stress because young people often feel powerless to stop the harassment and worry that they might become the next victim. Given the cognitive and social effects of witnessing cyberbullying, the role of moral emotions requires greater attention in the development of effective anti‑bullying programs. Moral emotions should also be targeted in creating efficient interventions to manage the negative consequences of such events for all participants involved.
