Summary/Abstract: Every psychological experience is accompanied by a feeling and a representation. The representation is the internal image, in the absence of the stimulus object, but accompanied by a meaning that the subject attributes to it. This meaning is not affectively neutral. The feeling that accompanies it is called affect. When representations are repressed, the affect remains active and can attach to another representation. The attribution of meaning is the result of the process of representation that is formed along the psychological development. Psychological development is not linear and constant, it takes place in stages or phases Each stage or phase is characterized by certain psychological capacities that are manifested in the relations with the social and cultural environment in which the human subject develops.
