Summary/Abstract: The backbone of the analysis that will be presented here is the nationalist orientation index, formed on the basis of a series of variables that, each in its own way, measure the degree of national exclusivity of the respondents. The basic dimensions that this index follows, for the sake of a more comprehensive and detailed analysis, can be classified into: attitudes about socialism and the reasons for its collapse; nationality and the current national distance that students maintain towards certain ethnic groups; and views on Serbia's accession to the European Union and the possible changes that accession will bring. In this way, apart from recognizing the existence of nationalist orientation, it is possible to determine whether its causes are found in the social circumstances of the nineties, but also whether, and in what direction, its further development is possible in the future.
