Summary/Abstract: Figurative language is frequently employed for specific purposes, encompassing aesthetic considerations and the intention to unveil particular meanings. Proverbs serve as exemplary instances of this practice, being connotative and emblematic of collective wisdom with origins deeply entrenched in human history. The current article approaches proverbs from the Conceptual Metaphor Theory perspective in order to reveal similarities and differences between the conceptual representations in the Romanian and English cultures. Specifically, the concepts of GOOD, EVIL and SPEECH are investigated in a self-made corpus of equivalent, Romanian, and English proverbs.
