Summary/Abstract: For many, prison is a new criminal experience, where they develop their criminal skills, create and expand their circle of friends from the criminal milieu, develop and maintain a prison code with numerous unwritten principles and rules, strengthening the informal prison system. While serving their prison sentence, they face numerous deprivations, criminal infection, prison overcrowding, are subject to the law of the stronger, struggle for their status in the group, but also with boredom, work disengagement, a small selection of activities to fill their free time, and other similar problems. All this has led to the fact that today many theorists in the field of penology, as well as those employed within prison institutions themselves, are questioning the process of resocialization and its success, i.e. there is increasing evidence of a crisis in the resocialization of prisoners while serving a prison sentence and the need to introduce some additional alternative sanctions for perpetrators of minor criminal offenses.
