Summary/Abstract: This paper tries to assess Russia and China’s relations with the Central Asian states, taking into account two periods of time: one from the disintegration of the USSR (December 26, 1991) until Russia’s war in Georgia, a former Soviet republic (August, 07-12, 2008), and the other from the Georgian War until the Ukrainian War (February 24, 2022 - present), in order to demonstrate how Russia and China have changed their strategies, policies and initiatives towards the Central Asian republics, and how the relationship between Russia and China has transformed over the years, particularly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with potential change of the weight between them in Central Asia.
