Summary/Abstract: This paper describes the development of the European Union (EU), being one of the main economic entities in international economic relations. The main point in it is not only the characterization of the united European economy, but also its comparison with other major economic entities such as the United States of America (USA) and China. The development is made in order to compare the EU with other world economic entities in order to check to what extent this economic community can claim global influence on the international economic scene. The comparison goes through the three main sectors of an economy – agriculture, industry and services.
