Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the issue of continuing education within the profession of signed language interpreter. It examines the context of interpreting competences, emphasising the importance of ongoing professional development in this field. It also discusses the definition of lifelong learning and its implementation in selected European countries. Furthermore, the text provides an analysis of continued education in the profession of signed language interpreter in Poland. The regulatory frameworks and positions of relevant organisations regarding this process are presented, along with current challenges and needs in this area. The study also outlines the research conducted with Polish practitioners of signed language interpretation, reviewing the results related both to their level of engagement in professional development and their perspectives on self-directed learning.
