Summary/Abstract: In recent years, the profession of signed language interpreter has undergone significant evolution, with the formal organisation of practitioners into entities such as the Association of Polish Sign Language Interpreters (STPJM) emerging as a key component. This article discusses the role of STPJM as a model of best practices in the professionalisation of PJM interpreters, emphasising the importance of both Deaf and hearing interpreters. The text outlines the benefits of such organisations and membership within them, including the professionalisation of the field, competency oversight, and improvement in earnings. The article highlights the importance of professional organisations in developing and maintaining high standards in signed language interpreting.
