Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the issue of translating Polish literature into Polish Sign Language. The author discusses the challenges that literary texts present to the translator, reflecting on her/his responsibility towards the original work and considering possible translation strategies. The analysis focuses on potential translational difficulties of the selected aspects, including the historical and literary context of the text, wordplays, erudite allusions contained in the original, as well as comparisons and metaphors. The author also highlights the acoustic layer and visual elements of the text, considering the challenges in replicating these features in signed language due to the differing modalities of the source and target languages.
