Summary/Abstract: The concept of mentoring has been adopted in various fields, such as business, art, sports, defense, and education. This article aims to evaluate the relevant literature regarding the mentoring process in the academic environment and presents the theoretical framework of mentoring in education, its functions and the associated advantages and disadvantages. In order to grasp the differing perspectives in the scientific literature, we analyzed and assessed the similarities and differences among various sources. This approach allowed to draw out pertinent ideas and utilize them within the context of the topic discussed.
