Summary/Abstract: This article represents an analysis of understanding of self identity among Yugoslav Jews after the World War II. The main issues of research are: 1. The changes of collective identity that was studied through the transformation of Jewish self-perception from religious to national at the turn from 1940s to 1950s; 2. How the Jews as individuals understood their cultural and national identity? This topic was researched on the basis of memoirs, diaries and interviews of prominent Jews and especially of Jewish writers from Yugoslavia. 3. The Question of usage and frequency of terms Jevrej (Hebrew) and Židov (Jew) among the Yugoslav Jewish citizens.
