Summary/Abstract: Firstly, the paper presents the basic directions of the cultural policy of the Yugoslav state and its efforts regarding the renewal of the school system in Kosovo and Metohija after the Second World War. The work of minority primary and secondary schools with curriculum in Albanian language was analyzed in particular. The unfavorable material conditions in schools, the absence of textbooks in Albanian language, an insufficient number of qualified teachers were pointed out, as well as the efforts of the regional leadership in Kosovo and Metohija to overcome mentioned problems by procuring books from Tirana, organizing professional courses for the training of teachers and hiring educators from Albania. The state of the Yugoslav educational authorities towards the issue of religious teaching in public schools is also presented. The work is based primarily on the unpublished documents located in the Archives of Yugoslavia, the State Archives of Serbia and the Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, as well as on periodicals press and the relevant literature.
