Summary/Abstract: On April 17, 1958, the USSR officially notified the Bucharest government of its intention to withdraw Soviet troops from Romania (Giurescu, 2010, pp. 149-150). On May 24, 1958, Romania and the USSR signed an agreement on the repatriation of Soviet soldiers stationed on the national territory. The agreement provided for a timetable for the staggered withdrawal of troops between June and August 1958, as well as so-called manifestations of Romanian-Soviet solidarity and friendship (Otu, 1958). On the same date, the Consultative Committee of the signatory states of the Warsaw Treaty (The warsaw Pact, 1955) approved this measure.
