Summary/Abstract: The text argues that political transition and democratic consolidation in Serbia require changes not only in political institutions but also in non-political ones, particularly universities. While some view universities as crucial actors in democratization—through fostering civic values, critical research, and public discourse—others, especially from technical fields, either see no political role for universities or perceive democracy as chaotic and undesirable. The overall conclusion is that the role of universities in political processes is complex and contested, shaped by legal restrictions, individual perceptions, and broader societal expectations.
