Summary/Abstract: The change in the balance of power at the global level and the establishment of the communist regime decisively influenced the creation of new trade routes between Yugoslavia and abroad. Political circumstances dictated a reorientation to the new markets of the eastern half of the European continent. However, it soon became clear that political voluntarism and ideological determination were not weapons powerful enough to cancel the inherited economic ties with Central and Western Europe, therefore economic factors influenced new foreign policy and foreign trade turns. In this paper, based on archival sources, I will endeavour to show the changes in the directions of Yugoslav trade cooperation from East to West in the light of the intertwining of economic and political factors.
