Summary/Abstract: This study aims at outlining the main challenges related to the preparation of the budget of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2025. Fiscal policy has always had a significant impact on the economy, but in 2025 it will be crucial for the fulfillment of the Maastricht criteria and, respectively, for Bulgaria's admission to the euro area. In addition to the fact that the moment is extremely important, the preparation of the budget is carried out in a situation of political instability and deteriorated state of public finances. The expectations for the country's macroeconomic development may further complicate or facilitate the task of preparing a state budget in line with the set strategic priorities and acceptable to society.
