Summary/Abstract: International conflicts dominate all other types of conflicts, always representing the most spectacular and dangerous form of conflict. Three causes of the increased dangerousness of interstate conflicts are identified: they break out suddenly, all actions are at the state level, state armies and paramilitary structures bring ready stocks of equipment, weapons and forces, amplifying the conflict, and, last but not least, they have the potential to to spread and involve other countries. The Taiwan Strait conflict is no exception and poses a threat to regional and even global security and peace. A combination of factors is needed to make crisis management and conflict prevention more efficient, including visionary and effective diplomacy, international support for peace and stability and peaceful resolution of disputes in the Straits.
