Summary/Abstract: In 1939, 'Gallegan Provinces of Spain: Pontevedra and La Coruña' was published. This book compiles the ethnographic, historic, literary and linguistic research conducted by Ruth Matilda Anderson in Galicia. Based on her two-year stay in the region, the curator at the Hispanic Society of America described a reality usually omitted in the contemporary official historiography by giving voice to women, both anonymous and renowned. We analyse how Anderson’s book contributes to value the decisive roles played by women in shaping today’s Galicia, and how translation becomes a necessary mechanism for pursuing recognition within the target system, and self-acknowledgement in the source one.
