Summary/Abstract: This paper describes how Galician immigrants in Switzerland maintain their language and culture and integrate into the host society. For this purpose, we analysed the language policy and the integration policy of the confederate and cantonal governments. We further examined the information obtained during interviews with the actors involved: officers in charge of the integration of foreigners working in the governments of the canton of Vaud and the council of Lausanne, representatives of immigrant organisations, as well as some Galicians living in the canton of Jura. We found that although the society in general accepts linguistic diversity, intolerant attitudes towards immigrants have also emerged, so integration policies have become important. Galician associations carry out cultural activities directed at the Galician community and serve as places of exchange for their members. They also aim to integrate immigrant Galicians into the Swiss society, but they do not offer courses of the Galician language due to a lack of demand.
