Summary/Abstract: The research examines the role of Hristo Botev’s visual image in the institutionalization of his figure in the national pantheon in the first decade after the Liberation, particularly the decisive contribution of Zahariy Stoyanov’s “attempted biography” (1889). The author purposefully manipulates historical facts to create a physical image of the poet-voivode, which will prove to be ideologically effective and necessary for the pantheon.
