Summary/Abstract: In this text I’m analysing poems of Polish and Russian authors connected with the Horatian motif exegi monumentum. I check how the authors use it and how it becomes a means of expressing the human desire of memory. For this purpose I use poems by Julian Tuwim as well as Ivan Bunin. Despite the different views on creativity, different emotionality, one can notice similarities in the basis of the use of this idea. It became a source and a means for poets to express their own doubts and hopes related to the future of poetry, as well as the memory of authors.
