Summary/Abstract: I.O.V.R. pensions have been regulated in our country since the 19th century, representinga form of state support for the closest family members of persons who died ordisappeared in the war, or for the survivors (surviving spouse and children) of thosewho were classified as invalids or war casualties. The legal nature of these I.O.V.R.pensions is that of a substitute for the maintenance obligation which the members of thefamily of the person who was their material breadwinner were deprived of as a resultof his untimely and premature death or disappearance in war. With regard to childrenwho are beneficiaries of the I.O.V.R. pension and who have the capacity to work, inaccordance with the legal provisions in force, their right to I.O.V.R. pension is not alife pension, but can be granted only until the moment when they have completedtheir professional training, by completing their school or university studies, but notbeyond the age of 26, within the limits established by the legislation governing survivor'spension, referred to in Article 5, paragraph 1 of Law No. 49/1999 on I.O.V.R. pensions.
