Summary/Abstract: The topic of the present chapter is the entanglement of history and translation studies and the application of histoire croisee as a scientific tool to analyse the communication in multilingual and multicultural environment, the process of translation, its products, the role of translators as well as the entanglement of the researcher with the analysed subject.The tool of histoire croisee is applied to study the linguistic and cultural communication in the International Brigades during Civil War in Spain in the year 1936–1939 and the participants of that event on the basis of Zofia Szleyen, a Polish volunteer and in the post-war years one of the most eminent figure in literary translation in Poland.
