Summary/Abstract: The article presents the Brazilian short story from its beginnings in Romanticism to the present day, explaining its origins in Brazilian rural universe and its graduał immersion into the urban universe, highlighting people and spaces as the basis of creation. It also distinguishes the figure of Machado de Assis as the creator of the Brazilian classics and Samuel Rawet as an innovator and inspiration for the emergence of new creative trends.
