Summary/Abstract: The confirmation and improvement of mobility through the main European transport axes is dependent on many factors, part of which are the economic expediency of carrying out the transport, as well as the possibility of concentrating the transport flows in a network generating the concentration and in a certain axis. In this aspect, the carrying out of cross-border railways transportation and the lack of alternatives is part of the importance of the overall transportation process. The purpose of this article is to analyze the emerging complications of transportation in cases of blocked border crossings, their economic efficiency for the redirection of the cargo flow and the need for decisive actions by the state to prevent them. The actual state of border railway crossings in Bulgaria is presented and the possible solutions for their development, including through alternative solutions, are analyzed.
