Summary/Abstract: Russian symbolists ignored and rejected early Russian film experience. Nevertheless, it is the symbolism that formed semiotic codes defining further artistic and aesthetic development of Russian film avant-guard in 1920s. The article is devoted to the film poetics of «The Twelve» which was later followed by Vertov’s experiments in documentary films («A Man with a Camera», «The Donbass Symphony»). Block’s levels of artistic world perception influenced the poetics of «The Twelve» as a system of iconic and iconographic film codes: the synthesis of corporality and convention, the principles of film montage poetics, change of planes and perspective, simultaneous space, colour, light and sound codes, and the synthesis of «film-eye» and «radio-eye».
