Summary/Abstract: The Dayton Peace Agreement, formally signed in Paris on 14 December 1995, ended the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina and regulated the way Bosnia and Herzegovina would be structured. Full and undivided jurisdiction in education is provided by the Federation of B&H and all its 10 cantons, the Republic of Srpska and the Brcko District. This agreement stipulates that the education system in Bosnia and Herzegovina remains outside the jurisdiction of the state. Twenty-three years later, we have two schools under one roof, fewer enrolled students in schools, nationalism in textbooks, and we are still without a national curriculum. One of the ways of improving this situation is seen in the development 428of patriotism, which is most simply defined as love for the native country. Our goal was to determine the extent to which the subject ‘My Environment’ provides opportunities for developing patriotism among students from the 1st to the 4th grade. We examined the representation of the contents that directly develop patriotism among students, and we compared the curricula in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Srpska), Serbia and Croatia. In this paper we also presented the teachers' views on the importance of developing patriotism as an integral part of the educational process.
