Summary/Abstract: Many people and even many linguists look at vulgarisms as something minor, restricted to colloquial style only, however in this paper we try to stress the importance of study of this part of language. We focus on Slovak vulgarisms that are being studied from the point of structure and overall characteristics, adding a typology of these words, based on important articles on this topic. Our aim was to contrast Slovak vulgarisms with those from different languages and our own assumptions. We succeeded to provide a typology of Slovak vulgarisms that is adjusted to the Slovak language specifics, that were highlighted in this study. Also, we found several interesting points in structure of these words and overall characteristics. All these might function as a basis for further study. This paper also discusses what a vulgarism is and the literature that was issued on this topic.
