Summary/Abstract: In most countries of the world, an increase in the consumption of alcoholic beverages is observed. An expression of this trend in Poland is both the systematically growing level of household spending on the purchase of alcoholic products, as well as the growing revenues to the state budget from income tax from alcohol. Excessive consumption of alcohol by society has a number of negative consequences in the economic, social and medical spheres. It is a risk factor for many diseases, generates criminal activity, has a significant share among the causes of road accidents, and in the case of the drinking population leads to alcohol dependence.
